This article is aimed at Administrators. Unlike standard researchers, External users can only see and use the assignments they are specifically authorised to.

If you have not already done so, you will need to add the user as an external researcher for your firm. This is done on the Permissions page (the same process as adding a normal user, but choose the permission 'External'). The user will be sent an email asking them to sign in and set their password - they must complete this before you can continue.

Next, give the user access to each assignment they need to work on. Open the assignment and go to the Owner tab on the left of the page. Add the external user as a Secondary Owner: start typing their name, and click it when it appears to add them.

Note on terminology: following the November 2025 Ownership update, what used to be called an "Associate" is now a Secondary Owner (and the former "Owner" is now the Primary Owner). Granting an external user Secondary Owner access is what was previously described as adding them on the "Associates" tab. You can add more than one person, and assign as many owners as you need.
