The shield shaped compliance icon (1) is a feature that allows you to deal with compliance notifications without having to change to the compliance screen.
Click the icon and select an option, notification or override (2).
A notification is an email that goes to the person, whilst Override, means that you can note on the person's profile that no email was required. In either case a note is made on the profile notes/compliance tab that the action has taken place.
Once done, the icon is removed from that profile.
